Dittoday Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 11, 2026Dittoday (“the app”) is a photo journal that turns regular photos of a face, a body, a pet, a plant or anything else into timelapse videos. This policy explains what data the app handles, where it lives, and what your choices are.
The short version: your photos stay yours — on your device and, if you enable sync, in your personal iCloud. The app has no accounts, shows no ads, does not track you across apps, and never sells data. The only thing collected is anonymous usage data, and it is never connected to your name, your account or your photos.
Your photos
- Photos you take or import are stored locally on your device, each in the project you put it in.
- If you enable iCloud Sync (a Pro feature, off by default), your photos and projects (their names and types) are stored in the private CloudKit database of your own iCloud account. This data is protected by your Apple ID and is technically inaccessible to the developer — I cannot view, download, or share your photos.
- Photos are never uploaded to any developer-operated server — none exists. They are never used for analytics, advertising, or training of any kind.
- Saving copies to your Photos library happens only if you enable that option, and only on your device.
How photos are aligned
When you make a timelapse, Dittoday lines up the photos of a project entirely on your device, using Apple’s built-in Vision framework. What it looks for depends on the project’s type:
- Face — the position of the eyes (see “Face detection” below).
- Body — the shoulders and hips, or the outline of the person. The app does not measure your body or look at your face.
- Pet — the animal’s outline and the spot where it stands.
- Other — the scene itself.
Nothing found in a photo ever leaves your device, and it is never used for advertising, profiling, model training or analytics. Finished videos are kept in the app’s cache on your device, so they don’t have to be made again.
Face detection
In a face project, Dittoday lines the frames up so that your face stays in roughly the same place from one photo to the next. To do that, the app looks for a face in each photo and reads the position of the two eyes. This is the only purpose for which the app examines faces, and it happens only in face projects.
- Detection runs entirely on your device, using Apple’s built-in Vision framework. No photo and no face information is ever transmitted anywhere — there is no developer-operated server to send it to.
- The only values the app derives from a face are the coordinates of the centre of the left eye and the centre of the right eye within that photo. From these two points it calculates how much to rotate, scale and shift the frame.
- The app does not create a faceprint, face template, face signature, or any other biometric identifier, and it makes no attempt to recognise, identify, verify or authenticate any person. It cannot tell one face from another, or tell whether two photos show the same person.
- The two eye coordinates are held in memory only, while the app is running, so that re-rendering the same timelapse does not repeat the work. They are never written to storage, never included in a backup, and never synced to iCloud. They are discarded as soon as the app quits.
- Nothing derived from a face is saved in the app’s database. The stored record for a photo contains only the image itself, its date, its project and an identifier.
- Face information is never shared with any third party and is never used for advertising, profiling, model training, or analytics. It is not sold or disclosed to anyone, under any circumstances.
Anonymous usage analytics
To understand which features are used and improve the app, Dittoday sends anonymous product events to PostHog (posthog.com), hosted on servers in the European Union.
What these events contain:
- feature usage — e.g. that a photo was captured or imported, a project was created and its type, a timelapse was exported and its settings (duration, format), a reminder was set, the paywall was shown, onboarding was completed;
- basic technical context automatically provided by the analytics SDK, such as app version, device model, and OS version;
- an anonymous identifier the SDK generates on your device, so repeat use can be counted without knowing who you are. It is not your Apple ID, your name or an advertising identifier, and it disappears when you delete the app;
- the IP address of the request, which any internet service receives by the nature of the connection. PostHog uses it to work out an approximate region and then discards it — it is not stored with the events.
What they do not contain:
- no name, email, phone number, or account of any kind (the app has none);
- no photo content or photo metadata;
- no precise location;
- no advertising identifiers and no tracking across other apps or websites.
Events are not associated with your name, email, account, photos or photo metadata. They are used only to understand how the app is used and to make Dittoday better.
Third parties
The only third parties that receive any data from the app are the service providers named in this policy — PostHog (anonymous analytics) and RevenueCat (purchase validation). They process this data only to provide their service to Dittoday, under their own published privacy policies and data-processing terms, and not for purposes of their own. No data is sold, rented, or shared with anyone else.
Purchases
Dittoday offers a one-time purchase processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. I never receive your payment details.
To validate purchases the app uses RevenueCat (revenuecat.com), which receives the App Store receipt and a random anonymous identifier — no personal information. See the RevenueCat privacy policy for details.
Reminders and notifications
Reminders — one per project, on the rhythm you choose — are local notifications, scheduled and delivered entirely on your device. Nothing is sent to or from a server.
Device permissions
- Camera — used only to take your photos.
- Photo library — used only to import photos you select, and (optionally) to save copies of your photos and exported videos.
- Notifications — used only for the reminders you set up.
Each permission is requested only when the related feature is used, and the app works without the optional ones.
Data retention and deletion
- Photos, projects and settings are under your control: delete photos or whole projects in the app; deleting a project, or the app, removes everything stored for it. If iCloud Sync was enabled, you can remove the synced copy in iOS Settings → your Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Dittoday.
- Analytics events are stored by PostHog under that anonymous identifier. Because nothing ties it to a person, I cannot look up the events belonging to a particular someone — and deleting the app ends any further events from your device.
Children
Dittoday is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If the app’s data practices change, this page will be updated and the effective date revised. Material changes will be noted in the App Store release notes.
Your choices and requests
- You can use the app fully without enabling iCloud Sync, saving to the Photos library, or notifications.
- To request deletion of data, object to any processing described here, or ask any privacy question, contact me at the address below and I will respond within a reasonable time. (Note that analytics events are anonymous, so they cannot be traced back to a specific person.)
